2/04/08 Kahuna Kawasaki launches Endurance Team

Woodbridge , Ontario - Kahuna Powersports, Toronto ’s newest powersports dealer, is pleased to announce the creation of a WERA Endurance Motorcycle race team for 2008. Kahuna Kawasaki’s Parts Canada and RACE Regional competitor, Vicki Schouten, will team up with North Carolina resident and AMA Superbike commentator, Greg White, to race select rounds of the WERA National Endurance Series under the Kahuna Kawasaki banner.  The team will kick off their season at the WERA National Endurance series opener at Roebling Road in Savannah , Georgia on March 15. From there, the team will see where things go with Vicki’s hectic Canadian roadrace schedule and Greg’s AMA commitments.

The WERA National Endurance Series is the premier motorcycle roadrace endurance championship in the United States . Endurance racing consists of two or more riders, competing to win races varying in length from 4 to 8 hours. Vicki and Greg will be racing on the finest of equipment—the all new and redesigned Kawasaki ZX-6R, Kawasaki ’s middleweight flagship, with premier support from Kahuna Kawasaki and Canadian Kawasaki Motors.

Ensuring the team is comfortable for the duration of these lengthy events, riders will be wearing Performance Under Gear, a high performance base layer apparel designed to enhance the riding experience and wick away moisture with its CoolMax  Extreme FreshFX properties—something the riders will need when spending an hour or more at a time on the motorcycle!

Suspension set-up will also be critical, as the team will be challenged to find the optimum race set-up for two riders of varying weights and set-up requirements. Accelerated Technologies’ John Sharrard will ensure initial race set-up is as compliant as possible to satisfy the needs of both riders. Accelerated Technologies is very familiar with the Kahuna Kawasaki race bikes as they do all of the suspension tuning on the machines during the Canadian roadracing season.

Pit stops, tire and fuel management are also very key elements of endurance racing and must be kept track of at all times during the lengthy events. In this regard, Brad Clarke will act as Crew Chief and lead mechanic for the team, overseeing all of the pit operations and any mechanical issues.

The team is also fortunate to have a number of other supporting sponsors including: Pirelli tires, Giro eyewear- for comfort and vision off the track, Vortex Racing Components for sprockets, rearsets and other racing components and Bickle Racing for tire warmers and leather repair.  Vicki will rely on Bell Helmets and Komodo Gear for leathers; while Greg will be outfitted in Arai Helmets and Alpinestars gear.
